If you want to learn how to write your brand story that will resonate with your ideal clients, you need to know how to identify your ‘mystique’. Your mystique is what makes you unique and different.
But first of all, what is a brand story? A brand story tells the train of events that ignited you to start your business and how those events still motivate your business today. If you do it right, you'll effectively build rapport with your ideal audience, they'll care about you, and they will never forget you.
In marketing, they say you’ve got to have this unique selling proposition or unique selling point to have any real success with your marketing efforts. You’ve got to find a special angle and tweak it in order to stand out from the crowd.
The fact is everyone is unique. There are no two people that are the same. But if all you're trying to do is copy everybody else in your industry, it will become a very crowded market for you.
So when learning how to write a brand story, you must first learn how to express your life story correctly by being yourself and by being authentic in the process.
By doing this, there will be no market that will ever be crowded for you.
As an example, there are thousands of companies around the world that teach the business skills that we teach at our Difference-Maker Accelerator course. However, no one can copy how Cham Tang and I teach and deliver the content.
So even though our personal development and business courses may be similar to other courses out there, you won’t get the same value and experience since Cham and I do our best to be ourselves and we don’t copy anyone.
Therefore, even though your marketplace may seem to be crowded on the outside, the more authentic you are, the less crowded things become.
Be yourself because everyone else is already taken.
How To Write Your Brand Story By Identifying Your Mystique
In order for you to be yourself, we've got to start to unpack what it is about yourself that's unique so that you can start creating your brand story.
When writing a brand story and to make sure that it's unique and compelling, identify your mystique by answering these questions:
- What are five major turning points in your life?
- What are five powerful lessons you've learned in life?
- What are five things that you've researched or studied before?
- What are five things that you've done that makes you different and unique?
- What are five places you've travelled to?
- What are five things that make you an expert?
- What are five results you're most proud of?
- What are five bad experiences that you’ve dealt with in life?
- What are five heartwarming miracles or synchronicities you've had in life?
- What are five funniest and craziest moments you've had with your friends or relatives?
Answering these questions will allow you to start to find your mystique or that angle that we're looking for to creating your great brand story.
And as you start to promote and market your business, finding your mystique will bring your marketing to life as well. It will allow you to stand out from all the marketing content that’s being put out there by your competitors.
As an example, let’s say we’re both life coaches and we have the same service-based business. But if we include our own unique life stories when marketing our coaching services, that will make our businesses completely different in the marketplace.
By being able to identify elements of your life’s history to use in your marketing will allow you to have a better return in your marketing because you are unique and different from everything else that’s out there.
Your uniqueness is what really brings things to life! It creates solid gold content!
Not only do they create unique and great content for your marketing, but all these mystique points also bring life and colour to interviews.
If you're being interviewed about something, you can't just all be about facts and figures. People get bored with that.
You need to add in a little storytelling to keep your audience engaged and make sure that they’re paying attention to every word you say, and identifying your mystique will help you to do that.
In Conclusion
We hope that you’ve discovered how to write your brand story by identifying your mystique points. Once you’ve identified them, decide what personal and motivational stories you’re going to tell people so that you can grow your brand and attract your ideal clients.
Now obviously later on in life, you'll have way more than five answers to each of the questions above. You'll have hundreds of them and you'll be able to just pick and choose to use for your marketing.
You’ll be like, “All right, I've got to go and market this retreat in Bali. So what I’m going to do is I'm going to grab one funny experience, I'm going to grab one turning point, I'm going to grab one bad experience, and I'm going to sprinkle them through my marketing.”
So, start answering those questions so you can start creating a compelling brand story.
