What Is A Life Coaching College, Institute Or Academy?

What Is A Life Coaching College, Institute Or Academy blog image
From the life coaching college to life coaching institute or life coaching academy, these days, there are so many life coaching schools to choose from.

So what is a life coaching college, institute or academy? Is one better than the other? Should I choose the life coaching college over an academy or coaching institute? Or will I become a better coach through a life coaching academy?

If you’re just starting your journey towards becoming a life coach, you might be wondering whether or not you should invest your valuable time and hard-earned money in a life coaching “college”, “institute” or “academy”.

Well, there are few important things you need to know when it comes to finding a good life coaching school, but when it comes to these terms, they’re really just used to make a school sound official.

Surprised woman holding a surprised emoji blog imageYou see, life coaching isn’t a licensed profession. Unlike accountants or doctors, there is no government-approved Australian body of coaches.

So, what this means is anybody can call themselves a life coach… even if they haven’t gone through the certification process. You don't need a certificate in life coaching, an online life coach certification, or anything similar to that to call yourself a life coach.

This is very important and relevant to you, especially if you’re curious about life coaching and want to become a coach. That’s because not having a license means that the schools themselves don’t have to get accredited by any particular institution.

So anyone can call themselves a health coach institute, the life coaching college or an Australian institute of coaching, or this life coaching college or that life coaching academy… they’re just terms to sound official! What they can't call themselves is a university.

And unfortunately, there are a lot of not so good programs out there that use these terms to lure in people who don’t know any better. And some of them succeed. Some people think that life coaching schools that have the terms college, institute or university makes them more legitimate.

But how can you really know that you’re going to get your time and money’s worth? Is there a way to find out if the life coaching college, academy, coaching institute or any other program out there can truly help you to become a highly paid coach? The answer is, yes!

Here are some questions you need to ask yourself before enrolling in a life coaching course.

Is It Accredited By The ICF?

The ICF logo imageThere is a regulating body called the International Coach Federation (ICF) that serves as the main ethical centre of the coaching industry around the world. And they do provide accreditation to life coaching schools who apply and meet their standards.

The ICF is the largest organisation in the world who are devoted to developing the coaching industry by setting high coaching standards and creating a global network of elite life coaches.

So, the first thing that you need to find out is are they accredited by the ICF? If they are, then there’s a good chance that you will get top-notch training and will become a professional coach that’s globally recognised.

Is It Online Or In-Person?

Life coaching workshop imageAside from choosing an Australian institute of coaching, life coaching academy, health coach institute or any other life coaching program that you encounter, you will also want to choose a program that has in-person training where you’re actually in a room with people and getting direct feedback from your peers and your trainer.

That’s because life coaching is a very personal skill and career, regardless of whether you intend to work with your clients in groups or plan to develop online programs for your clients.

While there are pros and cons to online vs in-person training, there is no doubt that you will learn better and faster if you are in an actual class with real people and getting feedback from your peers, trainer and the staff.

That’s why we would recommend you stay away from life coaching courses that offer to certify you completely online.

An excellent life coaching school will offer in-person AND online training where they will virtually support you and guide you via phone, video chat and email once you’ve personally done the training.

What Do People Say About Them?

Reviews and testimonials imageOne of the most important things to look for in a coaching course is what do people say about them? Do they have good testimonials? Do your research and read through their online reviews. Check out the reputation of both the main trainer and the company name.

Good coaching schools will provide multiple ways for you to get to know them online, and they will also be happy to speak to you in person.

What Is A Life Coaching College, Institute Or Academy – In Conclusion

What is the life coaching college, institute or academy – In Conclusion imageAt the end of the day, a life coaching school that has an official-sounding name doesn’t prove or mean anything.  If you want to become a professional coach and make a great living, the life coaching college, coaching institute or academy should at the very least:

  • Be ICF Certified
  • Provide in-person and online training & support
  • Have good reviews and testimonials

So do your research, talk to their staff, attend one of their free live events and see if it’s a good fit.
