3 Checkpoints That Control Your Goals

We need to align the 3 parts of the brain stem. These 3 parts can act as roadblocks to your goals if you don't understand how they work.

So if you have a goal that you want your entire nervous system to say "yes" to, you need to move it through 3 distinctive parts of your brain in the order below.

1. The Hind Brain

Also known as the reptilian or "croc" brain, this part of the brain works on instinct and filters out information based on 7 core ideas.

  • Fear
  • Doubt
  • Danger
  • Uncertainty
  • Complication
  • Suspicion
  • Boredom

Eg. Is this goal going to be boring? If it is, your goal won't get through checkpoint 1 and you won't achieve it, so make the goal more interesting.

2. The Emotional Brain

This part of the brain works on emotions. So in order to get through this checkpoint, you need to visualize your goals so it invokes an emotion in you.

Many people don’t go out there and create the goals they want in life is because they don’t have any reference point for how they will feel once that goal is completed. Without any reference, our goals are deemed outside comfort zone, sending us back to feelings from our hind brain and stop us moving forward.

When you begin to visualize for even 5 minutes a day, every day, your comfort zone will expand which means instead of reacting to life, you will take more successful actions.

3. The Rational Brain

This part of the brain works on language, rational information, logic and willpower. We tend to link up our goals with what you deem as important, otherwise known as our values. If you want to create wealth, but family is your highest priority, it’s important to rationalise – “how creating wealth will allow me more time with my family.”

Once you remove your roadblocks and can visualise and rationalise your goals, you’re entering YES TOWN. YES to achieving your goals, YES to taking action. In other words, you’re saying YES to a life of fulfillment and meaning.
