Today I wanted to cover a very important topic and that is the difference between success and anxiety.
A lot of the successful people I know including myself when we're getting ready to do something new we have this feeling in our stomachs, something that people generally would describe as anxiety. This is a feeling of a vibration in their chest or some type of heavy weight inside their stomach. I guess the main difference between successful people and people who get debilitated by this feeling of anxiety is we change the meaning.
One of the things I've learnt is that anxiety is not anxiety, anxiety is in fact expansion. It's your body getting ready to do something new. So next time you're trying something new or your stepping out of your comfort zone, rather than shying away from that feeling, welcome it, enjoy it. Enjoy the fact that your body is getting ready, it's transforming, it's doing some type of vibrational shift to get you ready for an experience that potentially is going to be one of the most exciting things you've done.
So what I'd like to share with you today is to change the meaning, make sure you don't go around calling things anxiety anymore.
If you stop a successful person in the street and ask them how they feel before they step on a platform, or before they launch a new business idea, or before they go on a new adventure they would describe the exact same feeling most people call anxiety.
So make sure you do take control of the meaning and understand there is no such thing as anxiety, it is just expansion. So go for things that do expand you, make sure you have fun with that feeling, enjoy that feeling and smile when it comes your way because it does mean that you're about to step into a whole new world and out of your comfort zone into something brand new.
I hope this had been beneficial for you and until we meet again smile often and do whatever it takes to be your own best friend. I'll see you soon.
(Make sure you watch the video above because we filmed it live from a part of the Hawkesbury river where I spent a day wakeboarding. Watch it all the way to the end to see some of the 'stacks' I had while I was learning how to wakeboard.)
The Gift: Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions
Dan Ariely challenges readers' assumptions about makingdecisions based on rational thought by presenting a wide range of scientific experiments, findings, and anecdotes that are in many cases quite amusing.
Once you see how systematic mistakes are you can learn how to avoid some of them or use them to influence others (with integrity of course!).
